The purpose of the project is to provide hydrologic analysis, alternatives assessment, updated hydraulics, conceptual design, and an updated flood hazard area delineation (FHAD). The project goals include:
Update hydrology in the basin
Identify existing flooding and drainage issues within the study area
Obtain input from the public, stakeholders, and the project sponsors to develop feasible solutions
Recommend conceptual stormwater conveyance and detention improvement measures
Prepare a FHAD for the creek
The First Creek watershed drains from southeast to northwest and outfalls into the South Platte River. The creek crosses through several jurisdictions including: Unincorporated Adams County, the City of Aurora, the City of Brighton, and the City of Commerce City. The upper half of the watershed is in a current state of rapid development due to its vicinity to DIA and the “Aerotropolis” area. The lower portion FirstCreek crosses through more established areas and through significant transportation and irrigation infrastructure.
The baseline hydrology phase of the project will analyze the existing and future conditions for the entire watershed. The remainder of the project (Alternatives, Conceptual Design, and FHAD) will focus on the lower portion of First Creek downstream of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal.
